INOVEM's collaboration system has been supporting the Matthew Taylor Review on rural economy and affordable housing. The Review, which reported at the end of July, used the INOVEM solution to help co-ordinate the dispersed project team analysing 278 submissions of evidence from across the UK.

According to Taylor Review Secretariat team leader Paul Haezewindt, the INOVEM system proved an invaluable tool in aiding project management, communication between the project team and version control of working documents.

"Having a shared space to upload, store, disseminate and discuss project documents, as well as other tools such as the calendar, allowed all members of the team, including those working in different offices and with different IT systems, to work together and stay in touch", he said.

The Taylor Review's report Living Working Countryside, published on 23 July, proposed a fundamental shake up of planning and affordable housing policy to breathe new life and prosperity into rural communities.

INOVEM was chosen in 2007 to provide a collaboration infrastructure that would enable the Review team to develop their lines of enquiry; and Paul Haezewindt believes it could make an even greater contribution within central government.

"We have found the system really useful and intuitive to use. I think many other colleagues could benefit from this - particularly as the department (Communities and Local Government) and across Whitehall moves to more project-based and cross-team working", he added.
